FOXBORO, Mass. — Big Vince brought some nastiness to the AFC Championship Game.

New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork was flagged for unnecessary roughness in the second quarter of Sunday night’s playoff showdown after delivering a forearm to the back of Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle’s helmet.

Wilfork was penalized for a late hit, as he drilled the defenseless receiver a bit too high following a completion by Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. The penalty cost the Patriots 15 yards on second down.

Wilfork’s penalty was important, as the Colts subsequently scored on the drive to cut the Patriots’ lead to 14-7. Stephen Gostkowski later added a field goal to give New England a 17-7 advantage going into halftime.
