There are embarrassing ways to lose a game, and then there’s how Rice lost to Arizona on Saturday.

The No. 17-ranked Owls were leading the Wildcats 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but four errors and two outs later, things were all tied up.

Then, with runners on second and third, Rice closer Matt Ditman lost the game simply by taking too long in his windup, as shortstop Kevin Newman stole home for the walk-off win.

After the game, Newman admitted he was acting alone and made his own decision to take off for home. That’s a bold move.

It certainly was a wild win for the Wildcats, but the baseball season is just getting started, and we have a feeling there are a lot more crazy endings to come.
