FORT MYERS, Fla. — Boston Red Sox pitchers and catchers went right back to work Sunday.

The Red Sox, whose hurlers and backstops officially reported to camp Saturday, spread across the back fields at JetBlue Park on Sunday to participate in several drills. One drill was geared toward preparing the team’s pitchers for comebackers they’ll inevitably face on the mound this season.

Being a good fielder isn’t a prerequisite to competing for a Cy Young, but fielding one’s position can prove beneficial. Thus, the Red Sox weren’t messing around Sunday as they worked on fielding hots back to the hill, corralling bunts, controlling the running game and covering first base.

Defense, particularly in the infield, will be especially important for the Red Sox this season, as Boston acquired three ground ball pitchers — Rick Porcello, Wade Miley and Justin Masterson — to insert into its starting rotation.

Below is a taste of the work put in during the Red Sox’s second official day of camp.
