BOSTON — Niklas Svedberg will start in net when the Bruins take on the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night at TD Garden, head coach Claude Julien confirmed.

Svedberg hasn’t played for Boston since he shut out the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 8. Tuukka Rask had made 11 straight starts for the Bruins and went 7-3-1.

Svedberg was sent to the Providence Bruins on a conditioning loan Jan. 30 and was recalled by Boston on Monday.

“He played four games. That’s what he’s there for,” Julien said of Svedberg’s time in Providence. “He said he felt better and better every game. Our goal was to give him some games. He hadn’t played much and felt it was unfair to him and to our team to throw him in when he was out so long or hadn’t played much. It was a great opportunity for him to go there and play a lot of games.”

Svedberg was 3-1-0 with a 2.76 goals against average and a .911 save percentage during his conditioning stint.

“It’s always easier when you play more, but I try to stay ready anyway,” Svedberg said after Tuesday’s morning skate. “I got some games in Providence so I feel good.”

Svedberg is 5-5-0 with a .922 save percentage and a 2.22 goals against average as Boston’s backup goalie this season.
