Burke Badenhop has a new home.
The Cincinnati Reds announced Saturday they’ve signed the right-handed reliever to a one-year contract. The one-year deal comes with a mutual option for a second year, the team announced.
The Reds didn’t announce the financial terms of the agreement, but according to ESPN’s Jonah Keri, Badenhop will make $1 million in 2015. The 2016 mutual option is worth $4 million and has a $1.5 million buyout, according to Keri.
Badenhop is coming off a nice year with the Boston Red Sox during which he was a bright spot out of the bullpen. The soon-to-be 32-year-old (his birthday is Sunday) appeared in 70 games with the Red Sox in 2014. Badenhop logged 70 2/3 innings in those appearances and posted a 2.29 ERA, the lowest of his career. Badenhop held opposing hitters to a .268 average and allowed just one home run all season. He also was slightly better against left-handed hitters (.255 against) than right-handed hitters (.276).
Badenhop owns a 3.71 career ERAÂ over seven seasons with four different teams.
