Goaltender prospect Malcolm Subban is expected to return to the Boston Bruins during the team’s current road trip.

Bruins head coach Claude Julien told reporters Monday that Subban won’t join the team in Calgary but he could later on the trip.

Boston plays Monday night against the Calgary Flames in the second game of its five-game road trip. Providence plays Monday afternoon against the Manchester Monarchs.

Subban was last recalled by Boston on Jan. 30 for the purpose of allowing backup goalie Niklas Svedberg to receive some playing time in Providence while starter Tuukka Rask was in stellar form. Subban was Boston’s backup for four games before being assigned to Providence on Feb. 9.

Subban was Boston’s first-round pick in the 2012 draft but hasn’t yet played in an NHL game. He’s 10-10-3 with a .920 save percentage and a 2.47 goals against average for Providence this season.

UPDATE (6:40 p.m.): The Bruins officially announced Subban’s recall from Providence and said he would join the team in Edmonton for Tuesday’s practice. The Bruins play the Oilers on Wednesday night.
