One New York Islanders fan is kicking himself after failing to realize how close he was to one of his favorite players.

Islanders forwards Michael Grabner and Matt Martin decided to take a little trip to the mall Wednesday, and what transpired was pretty funny. The two players stumbled across an unsuspecting Isles fan and had a little fun.

The fan happened to be wearing a Martin jersey, and as they all rode an escalator, Grabner and Martin figured it was a good time for a photo. So Martin posed for the photo behind the unsuspecting fan, which Grabner later tweeted out.

Not long after Grabner tweeted the picture, a guy named Michael Frumento tweeted at Grabner. By the sounds of it, the guy tweeting at Grabner was the same one standing in front of Martin on the escalator.

On his birthday, no less! What a bummer, right? A handshake and maybe a picture would have made that guy’s day. However, it sounds like Martin is going to make things up to Frumento.
