Landon Donovan couldn’t stay off the field for long, despite retiring from professional soccer.

Donovan stars in a new Wells Fargo commercial in which he joins a recreational soccer team as the “new guy.” He appears to be more than willing to pay his dues, literally and figuratively, for a chance to return to the sport.

Donovan hasn’t strayed too far from the limelight since retiring in December. MLS honored him by naming its MVP award after him and crafting a new trophy in his likeness.

That still wasn’t enough to earn him playing time in the rec league game. Maybe he should use his real name and join a team in a lower division.
