Goran Dragic isn’t the only point guard the Boston Celtics reportedly have their eye on.
Reggie Jackson, who played his college ball at Boston College, is another Celtics target, ESPN’s Chris Broussard reported Wednesday, citing sources.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard reportedly wants out of OKC after seeing his role diminish this season, requesting that the team trade him before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. There’s no guarantee the Thunder will honor that request, according to Broussard’s sources, as the team “won’t (just) give him away.”
The Celtics seem very keen on bringing in a point guard this week, as they’ve been said to have shown interest in Dragic, Jackson, Phoenix’s Isaiah Thomas and Denver’s Ty Lawson.
That raises the question of whether bringing in a new point man would stunt the development of rookie Marcus Smart, the heir apparent to Rajon Rondo in Boston. Smart has started eight games at the one for the Celtics, including each of the last five, and is averaging 6.5 points, 3.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season.
Jackson, who has lost minutes to Dion Waiters since OKC acquired the latter from Cleveland last month, is averaging 12.8 points, 4.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds over 50 games for the Thunder.
