Roger Goodell is trying to outrun his critics.

OK, not really. But the NFL commissioner did get a bit of exercise in at the office recently, and for a good cause no less.

NFL Network host Rich Eisen has an annual tradition of running a 40-yard dash in a full suit at the NFL Scouting Combine. This year, the NFL is using its “Run Rich Run” campaign to donate money to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The campaign asks participants to run a 40 in their full work clothes, so on Wednesday, Goodell decided to take the challenge himself.

Goodell apparently registered a time of 5.53 seconds, but we’re a little skeptical, as that’s faster than some linemen and nearly half a second better than Eisen’s 5.98, which he posted last year running on turf at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Then again, Goodell is the commissioner of the entire NFL, so we’re guessing nobody’s asking questions.
