Bill Belichick: Darrelle Revis’ Departure From Patriots ‘Not A Big Story’

Bill Belichick woke up on the wrong side of the bed — and the country — Tuesday morning.

The New England Patriots head coach was in rare form at the NFL Annual Meeting in Arizona, where he spoke for 40 minutes at the AFC coaches breakfast and offered very little to reporters on hand.

For example, Belichick muttered “I don’t know,” when asked how the Patriots’ defense will change now that star cornerback Darrelle Revis is playing for the New York Jets. Belichick didn’t seem to think Revis playing for a divisional rival is a very big deal.

“It’s NFL free agency. It’s like that in the NFL,” Belichick told reporters. “Players leave teams and go to teams in free agency every year. That’s not a big story.”

The Patriots had the option to pay Revis $20 million in 2015 to keep him in New England. Belichick didn’t exactly expound when asked why the Patriots elected to decline that option.

“It’s NFL free agency,” Belichick said. “We do what’s best for our football team.”
