Everyone’s NCAA Tournament bracket was busted after just a few games. Well, everyone except Micah Shrewsberry’s.
So who is Micah Shrewsberry, and why do we care about his bracket?
The Indianapolis native is an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics. On Tuesday, several Celtics players and coaching staff members gave the Boston Globe their tournament picks, with a few offering a bonus “upset special.”
Shrewsberry’s pick? The West Region’s No. 14 seed, Georgia State, over No. 3 seed Baylor.
Nailed it.
Georgia State, of course, followed up UAB’s improbable upset with the second major shock of the tournament when Ron Hunter Jr.’s late 3-pointer knocked his father off his chair and gave the Panthers an amazing 57-56 win.
Shrewsberry doesn’t have any direct Georgia State ties that we know of, so he must just really know his basketball. Which makes sense, because he’s an NBA assistant.
The 38-year-old predicts that Kentucky will win it all — a sentiment he shares with Evan Turner, Phil Pressey, assistant Jay Larranaga and, of course, former Wildcats star James Young.
Elsewhere in bold upset picks, Pressey gave some local love by predicting the West Region’s No. 13 seed, Harvard, to knock off No. 4 North Carolina. That seemed unlikely before Thursday, but now, all bets are off.
