Cesc Fabregas won’t tell the public whether he mixes business and personal interests when hanging out with Lionel Messi.

The two soccer superstars dined at Mayfair casino and visited department store Harrod’s on Sunday in London, fueling rumors that Messi could make a blockbuster transfer to Chelsea in the future, according to the Independent.

Fabregas refused to answer questions Tuesday about the bonding session, which also included the players’ partners and former Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Deco, the Express reports.

“This is my private life,” Fabregas said at a press conference. “I do what I feel makes me and my family happy and I have nothing to say about any picture that is away from football. I have nothing to say about that.”

Fabregas and Messi are longtime friends, having played together in Barcelona’s academy in the late 1990s and early 2000s and in the club’s first team from 2011 to 2014. The soccer stars and partners Antonella Rocuzzo (the mother of Messi’s son) and Daniella Semaan (the mother of Fabregas’ daughter) remain very close, despite Fabregas’ move to Chelsea last summer.

Messi reportedly has explored the idea of playing in England in recent months. Rumors of discord between Messi and Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique emerged in January almost at the same time as reports claiming Chelsea contacted Messi’s father (and agent) Jorge camme to light.

Messi’s insistence that he enjoys life at Barcelona won’t stop the rumor mill from spinning. Chelsea is one of the few clubs that realistically could try to sign Messi, and the Premier League leader undoubtedly would love to poach the Argentine superstar from Barcelona.

But we’ll take Fabregas at his word this time, given his history with Messi.
