Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez didn’t receive the news he was hoping for following an MRI on his throwing elbow Friday.

The 24-year-old told reporters Saturday that an MRI “found something” in his elbow, but added no firm diagnosis has been made yet.

“I hope it’s not bad,” Vazquez said, per the Boston Herald.

Vazquez added he will seek a second opinion on the injury, according to The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier.

While Vazquez and the Red Sox are trying to remain optimistic about his status, the catcher divulged he’s nervous about the prognosis.

“A lot,” Vazquez said.

The catcher has appeared in just six Grapefruit League games this spring, as soreness in his elbow has prompted the Red Sox to proceed with caution in recent weeks. Vazquez initially suffered the injury on a throw to second base during the Red Sox’s game against the New York Yankees on March 13.

If Vazquez begins the season on the disabled list, newly-acquired catcher Ryan Hanigan likely would take over behind the plate. Top prospect Blake Swihart also could see some time with the big-league club depending on the severity of Vazquez’s injury.

UPDATE (11:17 a.m.): Manager John Farrell told reporters they’ll still learning the extent of Vazquez’s injury, but said it’s unlikely he’ll be ready to go Opening Day.
