The offense usually gets the headlines, and that was the case again Tuesday night.

The line of Milan Lucic, Ryan Spooner and David Pastrnak continued its stellar play in the month of March, contributing two goals in the third period to help the Boston Bruins secure a huge 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers at TD Garden.

Yet the offense wasn’t alone. Also key to the Bruins’ victory was the defense, which kept the Panthers off the board in the third period and thwarted Florida’s 6-on-4 advantage as time ran out to help Boston hang on for the win.

After the win, head coach Claude Julien stressed the importance of the role his defense plays, not just in Tuesday’s game, but in any contest.

“We’re a checking team that can score,” Julien told NESN’s Andy Brickley and Jack Edwards. “I think when we check well, when we keep the puck out of our own net, we win hockey games. … We’ve got to really keep it tight, and tonight was a real good example of that.”
