There’s little doubt David Pastrnak and Ryan Spooner have some great offensive skills.

That much was clear Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes, as Spooner scored in the first period and Pastrnak netted the overtime winner to give Boston a crucial 2-1 victory.

Yet the two young stars still aren’t perfect. The 18-year-old Pastrnak and his 23-year-old linemate made a few mistakes in the defensive zone Sunday, and those errors didn’t go unnoticed by head coach Claude Julien.

After the game, however, Julien told NESN’s Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley that the experience gained by his young forwards certainly can be viewed as a positive.

“There’s still some issues there, (but) this is what experience is all about,” Julien said. “You’ve got to give them that opportunity, and we spend a lot of time showing them clips after games and trying to get better in those areas.

“But there’s no doubt offensively these guys have really helped us tremendously here along the way with all the injuries and everything else that we’ve had. They’ve been scoring some big goals for us.”
