The Boston Bruins went up against a Pittsburgh Penguins team Saturday that was without stars Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby, but that didn’t necessarily make things any easier.
The B’s came out on top 2-0, but the Pens actually kept it at 1-0 until Zdeno Chara scored an empty net goal in the final minute. And that was a fact that wasn’t lost on Bruins coach Claude Julien.
“Technically you think they should be a weaker team, obviously, when you miss those kinds of players, but at the same time, I think the guys that they had in their lineup played hard, played well and they made a real good game of it,” Julien told reporters after the game. “Sometimes that’s what happens when you’re missing players, the other guys step up and take advantage of the opportunity, and I think a lot of those guys over there did that today.”
