It’s no secret that Claude Julien doesn’t like shootouts, and his Boston Bruins haven’t had much success in that department this season.
Yet Thursday night should have brought a smile to the head coach’s face, as Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand both netted goals in the shootout period to earn a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden.
So what did Julien say to his players that helped them earn their first shootout victory since November?
“I said to them just before they went out there, ‘Hey guys, just go out there and have some fun with it,'” Julien told NESN’s Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley after the game. “‘Do what you do in practice, because in practice we seem to do it fairly well.’ … So they went out there and just did their job, and two out of three goals is pretty good.”
Despite the victory, though, Julien says his stance on shootouts still hasn’t changed. Hear more from the head coach in the video above.
