It might be awkward when Devin McCourty and Darrelle Revis meet up in Arizona to train for the 2015 season — but only for a few minutes.
McCourty told NJ.com’s Dan Duggan that he’s happy for his now-former teammate, who signed a five-year, $70 million contract to re-join the New York Jets on Tuesday.
“I’m going to tell him I’m not talking to him for the first five minutes, and then we can be friends again,” McCourty told Duggan at Rutgers’ pro day Wednesday.
McCourty re-signed with the New England Patriots on Monday, agreeing to a five-year, $47.5 million contract, reportedly taking less money to keep playing for the team that drafted him.
“I think a lot of people label him as chasing money, but I think he got a chance to be back to where he really wanted to be,” McCourty said about Revis. “From talking to him throughout this year, I don’t think he ever really wanted to be out of New York. I think now it will give him an opportunity to be back playing in New York and back where he got drafted.”
