Freddy Adu has resurfaced in Finland, of all places. Time will tell whether his soccer career finds firm footing in Northern Europe.
Adu is set to join Kuopion Palloseura as a free agent after agreeing to sign a one-year contract with the Finnish club Saturday. Adu still must complete a physical examination before signing the contract, according to The Associated Press.

Adu has been without a club since December when his contract with Serbia’s FK Jagonina expired.
Earlier this year, some speculated Adu, 25, was considering retirement after a decade as a professional soccer player, but the one-time American phenom’s nomadic career will continue in a remote corner of the soccer world, instead.

Adu scored four goals at the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland when he was just 14.

Adu will compete for playing time at one of the oldest clubs in Finland’s Veikkausliiga (first division). KuPs hasn’t won a league championship since 1976 but it finished second in 2010 and competed in the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Europa League in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
KuPs’ Veikkausliiga campaign starts on April 12 and ends in October.
