Miami Defenseman Dives To Save Goal In Ultimate Example Of Hustle (Video)

Louie Belpedio did not want his season to end.

The University of Miami (Ohio) defenseman proved as much Saturday night, making one of the most incredible displays of hustle we’ve ever seen.

With the RedHawks trailing Providence by a goal in the first round of the NCAA men’s ice hockey tournament, Miami decided to pull the goalie for the extra skater. The Friars eventually gained the puck in the neutral zone and it looked like they were about to ice the game with an empty-net goal.

As the puck trickled down the ice toward the vacated cage, Belpedio did all he could to try to extend his team’s season. He sprinted down the ice after the tumbling puck before diving at the last second to keep it from going in. After doing so, he went crashing into the boards.

That’s the sort of play that would make Patrice Bergeron proud.

Unfortunately for Belpedio, Providence would hold on for the 6-5 win, ending Miami’s season.
