The New England Patriots coaching staff added a familiar face Tuesday morning.

The Patriots announced they’ve hired former player Ray Ventrone to the coaching staff as an assistant special teams coach.

Ventrone was an undrafted free agent signed by the Patriots out of Villanova. He spent his first season on the practice squad and the following season on injured reserve. After bouncing between the Patriots’ and New York Jets’ practice squads in 2007, he spent the 2008 season with the Patriots, appearing in 15 games.

The 28-year-old also spent four seasons with the Cleveland Browns before playing his final two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

Ventrone was used primarily as a special teams player during his career.
