There’s a good chance Jameis Winston hears his name called first at next month’s NFL draft. There’s also a good chance it happens without Winston in attendance.

Winston, who’s the pick of many to be drafted No. 1 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, doesn’t intend on attending the NFL draft, according to Peter King of The Monday Morning Quarterback.

According to King, Winston’s plan is to spend the day with family and friends rather than at the draft, which will be held this year in Chicago. King leaves that open to change, but it sounds like, for now, Winston’s choice is the unusual one not to attend.

Every season the NFL invites the top prospects to the draft so they can be introduced on stage after being drafted. It can make for an awkward situation for players who fall farther than expected in the draft, but with Winston projecting to go high, it’s an unusual decision.
