Report: Vince Wilfork Draws Interest From Texans, Who Are Efforting Deal

by

Vince Wilfork immediately became a hot commodity when he hit free agency Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The Houston Texans are “making an effort to sign” the big nose tackle, ESPN.com’s Tania Ganguli reported Tuesday. The Patriots declined to pick up Wilfork’s $8 million option before the league year officially began Tuesday.

The Texans are chock full of Patriots connections. Romeo Crennel is the Texans’ defensive coordinator, former offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is Houston’s head coach and Mike Vrabel is linebackers coach. Former Tom Brady backups Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer will vie for the Texans’ starting quarterback job.

The Texans play a 3-4 defense, and Wilfork would fit perfectly playing next to end J.J. Watt.
