Russell Westbrook’s triple-double streak finally ended Thursday night with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s loss to the Chicago Bulls. But his amazing run is something we won’t soon forget.
Westbrook recorded four consecutive triple-doubles, becoming the first player to do so since Michael Jordan strung together seven in a row in 1989. Westbrook’s numbers in that span were mind-boggling, especially considering that he fractured his cheek during his third straight triple-double.
The 26-year-old missed just one game, returning after surgery to drop 49 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists on the Philadelphia 76ers. Westbrook averaged an absurd 37.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 10.5 assists per game during his streak, numbers that stand up to Jordan’s 30.6 points, 11.6 rebounds and 11.0 assists per game during his seven-game streak.
Yet all good things must come to an end, and they did so Thursday night when Westbrook only managed 43 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists against the Bulls. What a slacker.
