Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher were Liverpool teammates for 15 years, but they will be on opposite sides of the halfway line later this month at Anfield for a good cause.
Gerrard and Carragher picked teams for the March 29 All-Star game for charity at Anfield on Thursday, according to LiverpoolFC.com. Gerrard and Carragher will captain and manage the teams, which will include some of the best Liverpool players and opponents from recent years.
Gerrard opted for star power in his lineup, while Carragher preferred balance and industry in his. This shouldn’t surprise those who followed their long and storied Liverpool careers, nor should the level of the banter between the two longtime teammates.
Gerrard and Xabi Alonso will provide service to Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres, who form a dream strike partnership. Carragher will rely on his own and Pepe Reina’s goal-preventing prowess to thwart Gerrard’s team’s efforts.
Current Liverpool players who won’t be on national team duty later this month also could appear in the All-Star charity game. Select young players from Liverpool’s academy will join their older club-mates for the game as well.
