Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh hasn’t donned the “C” for long, but he joins an elite group of leaders in the New York organization.

The first-year captain was handed the reins after forward Ryan Callahan was dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for veteran Martin St. Louis last season at the trade deadline. Callahan earned the “C” after Chris Drury — who served as captain from 2008-2011 — decided to hang up the skates.

But it’s Mark Messier who might be the most notable name of the bunch. New York’s most famous captain led the team from 1991-1997, winning the Stanley Cup in 1994, and again held the title from 2000-2004.

But who served as the Rangers’ captain between the Messier days and the Drury days?
