Nigel Hayes recently learned a valuable lesson about hot mics.
The Wisconsin basketball team has had as much fun at press conferences during this year’s NCAA Tournament as they have had on the court advancing to the Sweet 16. Hayes and a few of his teammates have become just a tad obsessed with the tourney’s stenographer, dropping some absurdly long words into their pressers, but the forward revealed more than his vast vocabulary during the latest one.
After fielding a question, Hayes turned to teammates Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker and whispered to them that a woman in attendance was “beautiful.” But the thing about whispering is it doesn’t really work when there’s a microphone around. The entire room heard Hayes’ comment, leading to some laughter from the room and some serious embarrassment from the sophomore.
So good.
Hopefully more press conferences are in Wisconsin’s future for entertainment purposes, as the No.1-seeded Badgers take on No. 4 North Carolina on Thursday night.
