Anders Lee took matters into his own hands Thursday night, but those hands didn’t help him much.

The New York Islanders forward and his teammates weren’t too happy with Tom Wilson after the Washington Capitals winger demolished Islanders defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky with a monster hit in Game 4 of their Stanley Cup playoff first-round series.

So just five minutes into Game 5, Lee decided to stick up for Visnovsky by dropping the gloves with Wilson. To put it nicely, Lee got his butt whooped.

Lee got in a few jabs early in the fight, but Wilson responded with an avalanche of haymakers before the two tumbled to the ice.

To be fair, it was just the second fight of Lee’s career — his first also came against Wilson earlier in the regular season — and he did what he had to do after Wilson’s brutal Game 4 hit. The Capitals forward was aware of this, admitting after the game he took no issue with Lee coming after him.

“He felt that he needed to defend his teammate,” Wilson said, via For The Win. “Kudos to him. I’d do the same thing.”

The Capitals dominated the Isles in between the whistles as well, rolling to a 5-1 win at Verizon Center to take a 3-2 series lead.
