Bill Belichick Wears Armenian Flag Pin During White House Visit (Photo)

Bill Belichick wore three giant Super Bowl rings on his fingers at the White House on Thursday when the New England Patriots were honored by President Barack Obama.

Lost behind the flashy rings was a tiny Armenian flag pin that the Patriots head coach placed on the lapel of his suit.

Belichick wore the pin one day before the 100th commemoration of the Armenian genocide, when nearly 1.5 million Armenians were murdered by the Ottoman Turks.

This also comes one day after a White House official said earlier this week that Obama would mark the commemoration on Friday, but would avoid calling the atrocity a “genocide.”

Belichick doesn’t have an ounce of Armenian in his blood — he’s actually of Croatian descent. But paying respect to the victims of one of the most brutal episodes in human history definitely is a solid gesture from the coach.
