Sometimes, a small step back can lead to a big leap forward.
In their crucial matchup against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night, the Boston Bruins did a good job in the first period of getting in front of goaltender Roberto Luongo to create scoring chances. And most of the time, getting up close and personal to screen the goalie is what you want.
As NESN’s Billy Jaffe explains, though, sometimes you can get too close. Jaffe pointed out a few instances where Boston’s proximity to Luongo actually detracted from the team’s ability to score.
