The average MLB team is worth $1.2 billion in 2015, an astounding 48 percent increase from last season, according to Forbes. Additionally, there are now 15 teams worth over $1 billion, up from just five last season.

Bringing up the rear are the Tampa Bay Rays, who are worth just $625 million. Surprisingly, the Kansas City Royals — last year’s American League champions — come in as the third-least valuable franchise at $700 million.

Only four teams suffered an operating loss in 2014: the Arizona Diamondbacks ($2.2 million), Toronto Blue Jays ($17.9 million), Detroit Tigers ($20.7 million), and Philadelphia Phillies ($39 million).

The New York Yankees finished atop the list for the 18th consecutive year and only trail soccer club Real Madrid for highest team value in all of professional sports.
