Despite not finding the back of the net in the first period Saturday, the Boston Bruins put plenty of pucks in front of it.

The B’s outshot Tampa Bay 10-6 in an opening frame that saw the team play with as much energy as they’ve shown all season.

In the first intermission, NESN’s Billy Jaffe praised Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and Reilly Smith for their first period efforts against the Lightning.

“I like the way that the Bergeron line got out there,” Jaffe said. “Marchand controlling the puck, Smith having his block. But still, funneling pucks to the net, challenging the D of Tampa – which has been decimated by injuries a bit lately – to have to move, have to find them and keep the front of the net clear for Ben Bishop. … For the most part, I’ve liked their puck control.”
