The Boston Bruins got off to a strong start, but in the end, they just ran out of steam.

In a critical matchup against the Florida Panthers with playoff implications on the line, Patrice Bergeron gave Boston the initial lead Thursday night with a power play goal in the second period.

After that, it was all Panthers.

Florida poured in three goals in the third period en route to a 4-2 win, putting the Bruins’ hopes for making the playoffs on life support. After the game, B’s coach Claude Julien acknowledged that his team’s lack of execution in the final 20 minutes proved to be its downfall.

“In the third period, again, some real poor decisions there,” Julien told NESN’s Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley. “Whether it’s mental fatigue or just a lack of focus, it’s certainly disappointing.”
