DE Sheldon Richardson: Jets Are Going To Be Top Team In NFL In 2015

New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson has a lot of faith in his team. Maybe even a little too much.

The Jets have reason to believe that 2015 will go much better than 2014 after beefing up their defense with cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie. But Richardson seems to believe that their busy offseason will be enough to take them from 4-12 to the top of the ranks.

“We strongly feel like we’re going to be the top defense in the league — and top team in the league, not just defense,” Richardson said, per NJ.com’s Dom Cosentino, adding, “Offensively and defensively, we made moves that I feel like that progressed this team forward, and I feel like Jet Nation feels the same way.”

Well, then.

By all means, the Jets are better than they were last season, even if it’s only on paper for now. But one gaping hole in their roster remains, and that’s the fact that they don’t have a viable starting quarterback. Last year’s starter Geno Smith had a quarterback rating of 77.5, which was good for 29th in the league.

Of course, this is what Richardson is supposed to say and what fans would expect. But when anyone says a team that won four games in one season will be the best in the NFL the next, you also should expect people to point out how ridiculous that is.
