Dwayne Bowe no longer plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, but his bond to the region and Chiefs fans is undeniable.

Bowe was released by the Chiefs earlier this offseason, eventually signing with the Cleveland Browns. However, upon hearing that Chiefs super fan Betty Johnson — whom Bowe kissed before home gamesĀ — passed away at the age of 86, the veteran wide receiver knew he had to do something.

What he did was return to Kansas City to attend Johnson’s funeral.Ā According to KCTV in Kansas City, Bowe not only returned for theĀ Johnson’sĀ service, he also spoke at the memorial and sent a flower arrangement.

“You might have thought you were the Chiefs’ No. 1 fan, but in so many ways, we were yours. Thanks for making Arrowhead feel like home to me. I will continue to play my heart out for you,” Bowe wrote on a card accompanying the flowers, per KCTV.

“He flew in for my mother’s funeral to give her the last kiss,” Johnson’s daughter, Susan Johnson, said. “I wished I could have seen her in heaven today.”
