A jury found Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev guilty on all counts Wednesday, after two days and over 11 hours of deliberation in U.S. federal court.
Tsarnaev faced 30 charges, 17 of which carried the possibility of the death penalty, for his role in the 2013 bombing. The 21-year-old was found guilty of the deaths of Martin Richard, Krystle Campbell and Lingzi Lu, who died in the blasts, as well as the death of MIT police officer Sean Collier, who was shot by Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan while on duty on the Cambridge, Mass., school’s campus.
The trial now moves into the sentencing phase, which could begin as early as Monday. Tsarnaev’s defense attempted to paint Tamerlan, who was later killed during a shootout in Watertown, Mass., as the mastermind of the bombing with Dzhokhar as a pawn.
The verdict came exactly one week before the two-year anniversary of the bombing.
