Eden Hazard has ascended to English soccer’s highest echelon.

The Professional Footballers’ Association named Hazard its Player of the Year on Sunday, recognizing the Chelsea star for his excellent 2014-15 season. Hazard scooped the award — one of English soccer’s two most prestigious individual honors — at a ceremony in London.

Hazard beat fellow finalists David de Gea, Harry Kane, Philippe Coutinho, Alexis Sanchez and teammate Diego Costa in a players’ vote.

Hazard indisputably has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season. Hazard’s attacking exploits have powered Chelsea throughout the season. Chelsea already won the Capital One Cup and is closing in on its first league title since 2010.

Hazard, 24, also earned a place on the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Season. Hazard now has been included on the PFA’s team of the year in each of his three seasons in English soccer.

Hazard is one of six Chelsea players who were voted onto the PFA’s Team of the Season.

Tottenham’s Kane claimed the PFA’s Young Player of the Year Award at the same ceremony. Kane has enjoyed a breakout season in which he has scored 30 goals in all competitions, despite not becoming a regular starter until November.
