USA goalkeeper Hope SoloHope Solo has been in the public eye for the better part of the last eight years, but she often grabs headlines for doing something other than what she does best: play soccer.

Solo could change that dynamic for a few weeks this summer at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. Solo likely will be the starting goalkeeper for the United States women’s national team, as it looks to win its first World Cup since 1999.

Solo, 33, has experienced highs and lows during her lengthy national-team career. Her successes with Team USA at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games make her one of U.S. Soccer’s all-time greats, but off-field incidents have threatened to tarnish her legacy.

Soccer fever likely will grip the United States during the Women’s World Cup. Solo plays furthest back for Team USA, but she’ll be front and center in terms of visibility and scrutiny this summer.
