In the world of professional wrestling, it’s not uncommon to see the good guys go bad. While sometimes the turn comes as a shock, true fans know it’s never quite out of the realm of possibility.

Some of the sport’s biggest names — from Kane and The Undertaker to The Rock and CM Punk — have turned heel at one point of another. But one big name has always been a shining star: John Cena.

Apparently, that almost all went down the drain several years ago during a feud with The Rock.

Cena talked about how difficult a turn would have been while appearing on a WWE Network presentation of Chris Jericho’s podcast. He specifically cited his relationship with kids in the WWE Universe as part of the difficulty, but added that he would turn if his higher ups asked him to.

“It was discussed briefly, with the program with The Rock,” Cena said, via Sporting News. “I got new theme music, got new gear made. It’s not like I am not ready for it. I am just trying to do my job the best I can. If it happened, I thought it would be great. It would be great for me to be able to do that, but it is so rewarding to me to go out there and be inspirational. If they stay it’s time I just hope that they have someone ready to replace my role on the show and it was truly what’s best for everybody.”
