Mookie Betts’ name was trending nationally on Twitter after his performance in the Boston Red Sox’s 9-4 win over the Washington Nationals, so needless to say, he impressed a lot of people.
Red Sox manager John Farrell was among those people and said the 22-year-old outfielder — who went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, two stolen bases (on the same play) and a ridiculous catch that robbed Bryce Harper of a homer — could have handled the home opener Monday all by himself.
“He took the game over,” Farrell said. “All ends of the game, from defensively to base-running to at the plate. Exciting player, as we’ve seen. He went through a little bit of… A period there in New York where he was getting pitched to a little bit with a heavy dose of breaking balls, but he’s a talented, exciting player.”
