The New York Mets are turning back the clock.

The Mets haven’t won a World Series since 1986 and have made the playoffs just once in the last 14 years. Yet they entered Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves riding a nine-game winning streak, two shy of a franchise record.

How did they extend that streak to 10? With a little help from Juan Lagares, who paid homage to New York legend Willie Mays with an incredible running catch in the seventh inning.

Say hey, kid.

Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee approved.

“That was unbelievable,” Gee said after the game, via ESPN.com. “That ranks up there with the best catches I’ve seen on the field.”

New York trailed by a run at that point, but a home run by Wilmer Flores in the bottom of the inning and an RBI single by Lucas Duda in the eighth helped lift the feel-good bunch to a 3-2 win.

The Mets are off to a 12-3 start and can tie a franchise record Thursday night with an 11th consecutive win. The last time the Mets started 12-3 or better? 1986, of course.
