Liverpool Kit From New Balance Unveiled For 2015-16 Season (Photos)

Liverpool FC unveiled its home 2015-16 kit — the first made by Boston-based New Balance — on Friday, and the clean, classic design seemed to be a hit with fans and players alike.

The jersey contains a checkerboard pattern, inspired by the gameday scene at Anfield.

“Our fans create a great atmosphere at Anfield, and it is great to have a kit that reflects the red and white mosaic made when the fans on the Kop hold their flags and scarves aloft,” Liverpool vice captain Jordan Henderson told the team’s website. “The kit feels great, and I’m pleased the New Balance team considered what the players need from a kit when it was designed. The material is very comfortable, and the players are delighted with the result.”

That wasn’t the only detail included by New Balance, which added NB Dry, the company’s dry moisture-wicking technology, among other things.

Of course, the goalkeepers won’t wear red, to distinguish themselves from other players on the field. New Balance will deck out Liverpool’s keepers in black with red trim.

Simon Mignolet, Liverpool’s keeper, joined Martin Skrtel, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge at Anfield’s Centenary Stand for the kit launch Friday and couldn’t resist the urge to take a selfie with the 1,000-plus fans in attendance.

The new Liverpool home kit officially will be released May 14, but fans can pre-order a jersey on the team’s website.
