If you watched Kevin James save the day in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” and thought “elite athlete,” you’re not alone.

Mick Foley agrees.

In a story that’s apparently not new but hadn’t come to our attention until now, it turns out James was once quite the athlete in his day. A star wrestler at Ward Melville High School in New York, according to Newsday, James beat out Foley at heavyweight — both figuratively in the lineup and literally in practice.

A back injury for James opened up a spot for Foley, and the rest is wrestling history. Foley went on to WWE fame as Dude Love, Mankind and several other ring names.

As for James, it took another injury to derail his football career (we told you he was a pretty good athlete) before he turned to comedy. Best known for his role as Doug Heffernan on “The King of Queens,” James most recently starred in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2,” which grossed more than $23 million in its opening weekend.

Suffice to say, these classmates have both made their contributions to society. We expect to see them one day accept a joint Nobel Prize for providing the world with mindless entertainment you’re kind of embarrassed to admit you thoroughly enjoy.
