Markieff Morris and Marcus Morris, both of the Phoenix Suns, are under investigation by police for their role in an alleged assault on an acquaintance, The Arizona Republic reported.
The Morris twins allegedly took part in committing felony aggravated assault on Erik Hood, a former mentor of the twins from Philadelphia, for sending “inappropriate” text messages to their mother, according to the report. Hood reportedly told police a friend of the twins saw texts he sent to their mother, Thomasine Morris, and interpreted them as sexual.
Five individuals, three of whom Hood identified as the Morrises and the friend who viewed the texts, attacked Hood as he left a basketball game at a rec center, according to The Republic. Hood was beaten “to the point of unconsciousness,” he reportedly told police, before the attackers fled in a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
It’s not a good day for the NBA, which already is dealing with the shocking incident in New York City on Wednesday morning, when Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed at a nightclub. Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic of the Atlanta Hawks were arrested in connection with the alleged stabbing for obstructing the investigation, according to police.
The Morris twins, 25, played together in high school at APEX Academy in Pennsauken Township, N.J., in college at Kansas and professionally with the Suns since Marcus Morris was traded to Phoenix in 2013. Markieff is considered the better all-around player, averaging 15.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, while Marcus is generally considered the superior shooter of the two.
