When did it become legal for Tim Thomas to go back to college?

Oh, right. That’s just Providence College goaltender Jon Gillies doing his best Thomas imitation to help his team win its first NCAA hockey title.

After Providence tied Saturday night’s Frozen Four final matchup at TD Garden, thanks to an ugly Boston University own goal, and took the lead shortly thereafter, the Terriers came about as close to burying a game-tying goal as it gets.

Of course, one does not simply score on Jon Gillies.

That. Was. Awesome.

Gillies’ heroic save came with less than one minute remaining in the game and helped the Friars pull off the stunning upset.
