Raheem Sterling simultaneously demonstrated his worth to Liverpool and quieted questions over his commitment to Anfield in the most spectacular of fashions.

Sterling scored a superb solo goal in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Newcastle on Monday at Anfield. His goal proved to be the game-winner, as the Reds cruised to a much-needed Premier League win over the struggling Magpies.

Sterling struck in the ninth minute after receiving a pinpoint pass from Jordan Henderson just inside Newcastle’s penalty area. Sterling dribbled past defender Ryan Taylor, skipped through Gabriel Obertan’s challenge and curled his finish around goalkeeper Tim Krul to give Liverpool a lead it didn’t relinquish.

Sterling’s goal was his seventh in the Premier League and 11th in all competitions this season.

Sterling has been under intense scrutiny recently, having decided to table negotiations on a new contract with Liverpool until the end of the season. Many have questioned if the impasse would negatively impact the 20-year-old’s performance. That wasn’t the case against Newcastle.

Sterling called on Liverpool fans to make up a song or chant in his honor Sunday. He gave them something to shout about one day later.

Your move, Kop.
