Brian Peterson had a Patriots’ Day he’ll never forget.

Peterson, a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and father of three, lost his wife, Bridget, to cervical cancer more than a decade ago. One of the last trips the couple made together was to Fenway Park, which on Monday played host to a tear-jerking return captured by NBC’s “Today” show.

Peterson, whose story was submitted by his daughters, was selected as part of a series honoring individuals who have spent their lives working hard for others. He and his daughters were greeted by Willie Geist of “Today” early Monday morning, kicking off an emotional day that featured a stroll along the left field warning track, a trip inside the famous Green Monster and a meet-and-greet with Red Sox stars Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli.

For Peterson, a huge Carl Yastrzemski fan who grew up in Massachusetts, it was a perfect day that brought back countless memories and reflected the loving nature of his family.
