Report: Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Fight Will Be Really Expensive On PPV

If you’re planning on watching the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather next month, now would be a good time to start planning on which sports bar you’re going to watch it at because ordering on pay-per-view won’t be cheap.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the May 2 fight, which boxing fans have been wanting for years, will cost $89 to order on pay-per-view — and that’s only standard definition. If you want the high-def version of the fight, it’s going to cost you an extra $10 at $99.

It probably goes without saying, but those are record prices. The previous high for an HD pay-per-view price was $74.95.

According to the Wall Street Journal, TV distrubtors were being asked to give up 70 percent of revenue from the fight, but that number has come down some. There’s still a chance the distrubitors end up relinquishing 40 percent of the revenue.

However, don’t expect that insane price to push away too many fans. “Industry observers” told the WSJ there’s a chance the fight could fetch 3 million pay-per-view buys, which of course, would mean PPV revenue of $300 million. If that’s the final figure, that would nearly double the current pay-per-view record.
