A fight at a New York City club early Wednesday led to the stabbing of an Indiana Pacers player and the arrest of two Atlanta Hawks, according to a report.
The New York Daily News reported Wednesday morning that Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed in the adomen during an argument at 1 OAK club in New York City. Copeland’s wife also was stabbed during the altercation.
Copeland, his wife and another woman who was stabbed, are all in stable condition, sources told the New York Daily News.
According to the Daily News report, the man accused of stabbing Copeland was arrested, as were two Indiana Pacers players. Hawks players Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha also were arreseted and charged with obstructing governmental administration. According to the report, the two Hawks refused to move as police attempted to set up the crime scene.
The Pacers are in New York to face the Knicks on Wednesday night, and the Hawks will square off with the Brooklyn Nets.
UPDATEÂ (9 a.m. ET): Pacers president Larry Bird released this statement regarding the incident.
“We are aware that Chris Copeland was injured early this morning in New York City. We are still gathering information and will update when we know more. Our thoughts are with Chris and those injured.”
UPDATE (1:20 p.m. ET): Authorities confirmed the stabbing to The Associated Press, adding that the suspect, Shezoy Bleary, is in custody.
